The purpose of this report is to provide readers with an initial understanding of financial advisor benchmarking data and the resulting best practices that such data suggests across a wide variety of traditionally defined markets & distribution channels. Dozens of studies exist regarding financial advisor benchmarking data (including Tiburon's own financial advisor benchmarking tools). And dozens of financial advisor coaches claim to know the best practices of running financial advisory businesses. This report analyzes and compares dozens of existing benchmarking studies, addressing data ranging from profit margins to employee efficiency. This report also evaluates advice given by coaches in comparison to factual data from leading financial advisors. This is the second draft of Tiburon’s research on this topic.
Tiburon’s first draft of this report was published in 2009; that draft consolidated prior Tiburon research into one report.
This is Tiburon’s second draft of this report; this draft adds a new introduction and a new synopsis, and restructures the report to include the executive summaries of Tiburon’s underlying tools research reports along with the comparison to third-party surveys.
Written by Tiburon Managing Principal Chip Roame, Senior Research Manager Pablo Perez, & Research Associate Madhu Subramanian.
