Tiburon Strategic Advisors offers market research, strategy consulting, & other related services primarily to financial services firms. For the past eight years, Tiburon has also hosted the semi-annual Tiburon CEO Summits alternately in New York & San Francisco; these events provide a unique opportunity for a select cross-industry group of senior financial services industry executives to discuss a broad swath of issues regarding the future of the brokerage, investments, advice, & wealth management businesses. The next Tiburon CEO Summit will be held October 7-8, 2009 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in San Francisco, CA. There are over twenty planned sessions. Jon Baum has served as the CEO of The Dreyfus Corporation since 2008, where he is responsible for forming & leading The Dreyfus Corporation's management team, guiding its strategic alliances, and managing the implementation of its business initiatives. He added the title of chairman of The Dreyfus Corporation in 2009, and also serves as chairman & CEO of MBSC Securities, the distributor of the Dreyfus Family of Funds. Additionally, he is a member of the operating committee of The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation and the executive committee of BNY Mellon Asset Management.

Prior to becoming CEO of The Dreyfus Corporatoin, Mr. Baum was vice chairman of distribution, overseeing distribution to intermediaries of all financial products, relationship managment with intermediary partners, field management, retirement & separate account specialists, and external & internal wholesalers. Prior to joining The Dreyfus Corporation, Mr. Baum was chief operating officer at Scudder Investments and CEO of its distribution company. He joined Scudder from the position of executive vice president and director of business development for the private client group at UBS Paine Webber, where he began his career in 1984 as a financial advisor.

Mr. Baum will utilize his 25 years of experience in distribution to present a historical overview of how his own firm is addressing the recent market changes and will discuss the drivers of distribution success going forward, including the importance of maintaining client focus, having the strength to compete, & providing needs-based offerings.

John Calamos

John Calamos (CEO, Calamos Asset Management)

John Calamos has served as chairman, CEO, & chief investment officer of Calamos Asset Management since founding the firm in 1977 and taking it public in 2004. A pioneer in investment strategies & risk management techniques, Mr. Calamos has created a reputation for using investment techniques to control risk, preserve capital, & build long-term wealth.

Prior to founding his firm in 1977, Mr. Calamos served as a combat pilot during the Vietnam War, ultimately earning the rank of major in the United States Air Force. During his service, Mr. Calamos became intrigued by the risk management aspects of convertible bonds. By applying option price theory to the valuation of convertibles, he was able to demonstrate the benefit of convertibles as part of an overall investment strategy. Mr. Calamos won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for the financial services sector Lake Michigan Area program for 2006. He is a member of the Investment Analysts Society of Chicago and is often quoted as an authority on risk-managed investment strategies in Barron's, Fortune, Forbes, & The Wall Street Journas as well as on CNBC & Bloomberg Forum. He has written two books - Investing in Convertible Securities: Your Complete Guide to the Risks & Rewards - and - Convertible Securities: the Latest Instruments, Portfolio Strategies, & Valuation Analysis.

Mr. Calamos will discuss the firm’s history, sharing highlights of its transformation from a convertibles specialist into an institutional caliber global investment manager. In the wake of last year’s severe market dislocation, he also will focus on the ongoing challenges of today’s uncertain economy and the increasing importance of risk management as investors pursue the selective opportunities that remain available across all asset classes.

Fred Jonske (CEO, M Financial Group)

Fred Jonske has served as CEO of M Financial Group since joining the company in 1996. He led M Financial's reorganization from a partnership to a member owned holding company and continues to focus on refining & executing the company's strategic direction. During Mr. Jonske's tenure, M Financial's sales have grown at a compound annual rate of 17%, solidifying the company's position as the leading independent life insurance design & distribution system serving the ultra affluent market in the United States.

Prior to joining M Financial, Mr. Jonske was president, chief operating officer, & a board member of Lincoln Benefit Life Insurance Company of Lincoln, NE, and Surety Life Insurance Company of Salt Lake City, UT, both of which are subsidiaries of Allstate Life Insurance Company, as well as a board member of Lincoln Benefit Financial Services. Mr. Jonske developed & implemented Lincoln Benefit Life's brokerage distribution strategy with a network of more than 100 agencies. Under his management, the company established a strong market position in universal life, term, fixed annuities, and variable life & annuities. He began his career with Allstate Life Insurance Company in 1971 and prior to his election as president of Lincoln Benefit Life in 1982, held various actuarial positions in the individual & corporate areas.

Mr. Jonske will share his perspectives on marketing life insurance to the ultra affluent through the independent channel, and the challenges and opportunities that have emerged in the evolving financial landscape. Mr. Jonske will also detail the strategies M Financial is deploying to deliver value to, and advocate on behalf of, the clients served by the company's 125 member firms.

Deena Katz has served as chairman of Evensky & Katz since co-founding the firm in 1985 and as associate professor at Texas Tech University since 2007.

In addition to her dual roles, Ms. Katz is an internationally recognized financial advisor & practice management expert and the author of six books on financial planning & practice management topics. Ms. Katz served as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Retirement Planning and has been a contributing writer for Financial Advisor, Investment Advisor, Financial Planning Magazine, & National Underwriter. Ms. Katz was one of the first advisors named as Financial Planning Magazine's Movers & Shakers for 2001, as well as one of Accounting Today's Top Ten Names to Know in Financial Planning, in 2001 & 2002. She has been on the Investment Advisor's Most Influential People in the Industry list for the past five out of six years, including 2008. She has been included on the Worth Magazine list of top financial advisers numerous times. She is frequently quoted by major national news media and has made various television appearances on national network programs for CBS, ABC, & PBS. She is a nationally recognized speaker in the United States. She has also been called upon by global financial services organizations to speak at international financial forums held in various locations including Australia, Canada, Japan, England, India, Ireland, Singapore, New Zealand, Malaysia, & South Africa. Ms. Katz is on the board of trustees for the Foundation for Financial Planning, a member of the Advisory Board for Fidelity Research, and currently serves as an advisor to the comptroller of the state of Texas on its college funding plans.

Ms. Katz plans to focus her presentation on a number of concerns among the baby boomer community following the last year's financial crisis. She will review the risks boomers face in the de-cumulation phase of life, will discuss several investment strategies considered by boomers in managing these risks, and will discuss how current & coming regulations might help boomers in reaching & maintaining retirement goals.

Pete Kight has served as vice chairman of Fiserv since 2007, when the firm acquired Check Free Corporation. He focuses on driving industry innovation and leading strategic development, new product direction, & the integration of the strengths of Check Free Corporation and Fiserv.

Prior to joining Fiserv, Mr. Kight served as chairman & CEO of Check Free Corporation, a company he founded in 1981 in his grandmother's basement with a vision of providing electronic funds transfer services to businesses & consumers. On the realization of those goals, that vision expanded to building infrastructures to support new services that enable & uncomplicate the electronic movement & management of personal & business finances. Today, those products & services have become pervasive, particularly the ability for consumers to view & pay bills online. Under Mr. Kight's leadership, Check Free expanded its scope to multiple types of payments & processing infrastructures, leveraging business intelligence to detect & prevent fraud, electronic billing, reconciliation, & operational risk management capabilities by way of internal development & acquisitions. Mr. Kight was recognized as one of ten unsung financial heroes by Money magazine and featured in Fortune magazine, where Check Free's e-payments functionality was named one of the Seven Silver Bullet Technologies. In 2007, he received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and was the first recipient of the Peter Kight Lifetime Achievement Award from Bank Technology News.

Mr. Kight will discuss the process of Check Free being acquired by Fiserv in 2007, and will address how he plans to continue to build strength upon strength in a new economy and with a new partner. He may also divulge some strategies that he expects to take him to his planned domination of the global wine industry.

Steve Lockshin has served as chairman & CEO of Convergent Wealth Advisors since founding the firm in 1988. Mr. Lockshin leads Convergent in its efforts to deliver a differentiated offering to the ultra affluent. Under his leadership, the company has emerged as an early adopter of asset allocation strategies for ultra-high-net-worth families, successful use of Monte Carlo simulation to better quantify the risks & reward parameters of alternative portfolios, equity risk management, and other innovative strategies. Mr. Lockshin previously served as a partner at Meltzer & Associates, a nationally recognized firm providing services in insurance, estate planning, & executive compensation. From 1985 to 1988, he worked with Legg Mason in various business units, including an extended period in the municipal bond department.

Mr. Rudd is also the former CEO of Barra, where under his guidance the firm developed risk management technologies, investment portfolio analysis methods, trading technologies, & a vision for the modern management of large pools of assets that have subsequently become the professional standard on a global basis. From 1977 to 1982, Mr. Rudd was a professor of Finance & Operations Research at Cornell University. He gained recognition as the co-author of Modern Portfolio Theory: The Principles of Investment Management and of Option Pricing. He also acts as an Associate Editor of the Financial Analysts Journal, the Journal of Portfolio Management, & the Journal of Investing. Recent publications include Investing in Movies, published in the Journal of Asset Management and Investing in Rare Books, forthcoming in Collectible Investments for High Net Worth Investors.

Mr. Rudd will discuss goal based investing, how it was successfully adopted from both the financial service provider perspective & the end investor perspective, and his vision for the future of personal financial management.

Jim Weddle

Jim Weddle (Managing Partner, Edward Jones & Company)

Jim Weddle has served as managing partner of Edward Jones & Company since 2006, when he became only the fifth person in the firm's history to hold that title. In his role as managing partner, Mr. Weddle is responsible for leading the partners who manage the firm and for guiding its strategic direction. Mr. Weddle also serves as a trustee for the St. Louis Science Center, is on the board of directors for Webster University, the executive committee of The United Way of Greater St. Louis, the board of the Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association, and the board of governors of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

Prior to becoming managing partner of Edward Jones & Company, Mr. Weddle was responsible for overseeing all of the firm’s branch offices. His responsibilities, which he assumed in 1997, included not only the facilities themselves, but also financial advisors’ compensation & incentives, as well as leadership development for the firm. Mr. Weddle joined Edward Jones in 1976 as a part-time intern in the firm’s research department. Like all of the firm’s previous managing partners, he began his career as a financial advisor. After earning his MBA, Mr. Weddle opened the firm’s 200th branch. In 1984, he was named a principal in the firm and assumed responsibility for mutual fund sales & marketing. He then became an area partner and was responsible for expanding the firm's presence on the east coast, where he led the firm’s growth from 250 offices to over 1,000. Mr. Weddle has served as a member of the firm's management committee since 1987.

Mr. Weddle will address the challenges and opportunities for financial services firms in the current economy and beyond. He will elaborate on how to serve investors and thrive as a firm by making client service excellence a top focus and relying upon strategic, long-term planning.
