Tiburon CEO Summit XIII Tiburon Strategic Advisors, a market research & strategy consulting firm serving a wide variety of financial institutions and investment managers, hosts a series of client-only CEO conferences called the Tiburon CEO Summits. The next CEO Summit will be held October 9-10, 2007 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in San Francisco, CA. George Gatch (CEO, JP Morgan Funds Management, JP Morgan Chase), will join Stephanie DiMarco (CEO, Advent Software), Mike Fraizer (CEO, Genworth Financial), John Gunn (CEO, Dodge & Cox), and Ron Peyton (CEO, Callan Associates) as guest speakers, along with Tiburon's Managing Principal Chip Roame. Tiburon CEO Summit Guest Speaker: George Gatch (CEO, JP Morgan Funds Management, JP Morgan Chase)
George Gatch is CEO of JP Morgan Funds Management, where he oversees over $300 billion in assets. Mr. Gatch joined JP Morgan Chase in 1986 and has held numerous leadership positions throughout the firm in business management, marketing, and sales. Currently, Mr. Gatch leads JP Morgan Chase's US mutual fund and retail businesses, including the firm's sub-advisory and managed account activities. Mr. Gatch also oversees JP Morgan Chase's global money market fund business, which is the largest institutional money market fund complex globally. Prior to joining JP Morgan Chase, Mr. Gatch was CEO of DKB Morgan, a Japanese mutual funds company, which was a joint venture between JP Morgan and Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank. Prior to this, Mr. Gatch established JP Morgan Asset Management's sub-advisory and institutional mutual funds businesses. In 2006, Mr. Gatch was named Fund Leader of the Year by Institutional Investor for overseeing the largest mutual fund merger in US history between Banc One and JP Morgan Chase. Mr. Gatch is a member of the Investment Company Institute's Executive Committee and Board of Governors; the ICI's President & CEO Paul Stevens was a guest speaker at Tiburon’s CEO Summit XII. Mr. Gatch will address the impact of several key industry trends -- the growth of assets worldwide and the steady growth in mutual funds. Mr. Gatch will also address with first-hand knowledge institutional mergers & acquisitions. Mr. Gatch will be introduced by Chip Roame (Managing Principal, Tiburon Strategic Advisors). JP Morgan Chase has benefited from the purchase of Tiburon's mutual funds research report, which profiles JP Morgan Chase and other mutual fund company leaders. Tiburon Research Reports Tiburon has created a series of research reports to help educate its clients in a low-cost way on a wide variety of topics in the brokerage, investments, private banking, and wealth management markets. Tiburon's research provides the foundation for identifying the CEO Summit's guest speakers, and these reports allow Tiburon clients to learn more about the topics addressed by the five guest speakers, and to anticipate discussion topics in the nine break-out sessions. Tiburon Mutual Funds Research Report: The $10.8 trillion mutual funds industry deserves an encyclopedic review and this is it. This report addresses data flows, trends in product development (e.g., lifestyle funds, socially conscious funds, mutual funds with hedge fund strategies), pricing parameters (e.g., share classes, mutual fund wrap programs, performance fees), and distribution channels (e.g., wirehouses, mutual fund supermarkets, fee-only financial advisors, independent reps, international markets). This is Tiburon's third effort at putting its views regarding this huge market into a single report, with each subsequent version being made more thorough. Tiburon’s first draft of this report was published in 2005; that draft was a relatively quick effort at compiling information on a very large market. The second draft of this report focused on fleshing out the history chapter, adding structure to the appendix, adding significant detail to a handful of large mutual fund companies’ profiles in the appendix, and reformatting the underlying Power Point pages. This third draft of the report focuses on further tightening the story, incorporating research from other Tiburon efforts, and adding significant detail to the appendix profiles of the 300 relatively smaller mutual fund companies. There are three core sections for this third draft. The first section aims to explain the evolution of the mutual funds industry, the second section outlines mutual fund markets & distribution channels, and the last section addresses Tiburon's predictions for the mutual funds industry.
