Paul Stevens has served as President & CEO of the Investment Company Institute since 2004. He also is a director of ICI Mutual Insurance Company. Mr. Stevens' career has encompassed a number of roles in government service and the private sector. From 1993 to 1997, Mr. Stevens was general counsel of ICI. He then served as general counsel for mutual funds and international enterprise at The Charles Schwab Corporation in San Francisco, CA from 1997 to 1999 (where he overlapped briefly with Tiburon Managing Principal Chip Roame). From 1999 to 2004, Mr. Stevens was a leader of the financial services practice of Dechert an international law firm. Between 1985 and 1989, Mr. Stevens served as special assistant for national security affairs to President Reagan, as executive secretary and legal advisor of the National Security Council, and in other senior positions at the White House & the Pentagon. Mr. Stevens will address the rapidly evolving investment management business, mutual funds’ role in retirement policy, other regulatory and legislative challenges the industry faces in Washington, DC, and the emergence of new products such as ETFs and hedge funds.
